CUBE3/LARRY ROSENTHAL BIOGRAPHY

Founded in 1990, Cube Productions Inc. under the leadership of owner Larry Rosenthal was a founding element of what has been known to become “Silicon Alley” in New York City. Now situated in California, Larry continues to design, direct, and consult on digital projects now mainly focused on entertainment and the Internet. Larry’s work experience has focused on being a producer, designer and director for both television and digital media. He has worked for over 15 years creating the look and ideas of worlds, products, and environments for clients ranging from entertainment companies like SONY, Paramount, AOL, MTV and CBS to more corporate companies like Proctor and Gamble and Sara Lee Corp. His credits in science fiction and genre design go back to the production design of the “Adventure of the Galaxy Rangers”, the first daily animated science fiction television show to include 3D computer graphics in 1986. Larry also co created and visually designed the “Maintenance Men’s Lounge” a late night pilot for ABC television that was created using the first AVID edit and PC based digital EFX for a one hour show produced in NYC. The “MML” was later developed into a CD-ROM game for Paramount Interactive. Other Sci-Fi related projects include the Production design for the development of SNOWCRASH CDROM for Paramount Publishing and the design and direction of the DC COMICS CDROM for GT Interactive in 1996. The creation of ELECTROPOLIS and the X FILES Online for Delphi Internet /News Corps online efforts in 1994 were also designed by Larry. Moving to California in 1997, Larry continued to work on genre related new media projects. In 2001 he completed his tasks designing a Dungeons and Dragons RPG PC Game with Stormfront Studios and Mindscape in San Rafael, CA. During 2001 Larry spent his time consulting with web3d and video streaming companies such as Brilliant Digital and Veon. Acting as an evangelist, consultant to the developer community, and entrepreneurial director for these cutting edge products and technologies, he developed prototype projects and relationships for these clients. He followed this up by producing the LABZONE for SHOWTIME Networks, the first web3d news/gallery/festival site produced by a cable media company. Prior to working with Stormfront Studios on the design and creation of “The Pool of Radiance II-RPG “ in Berkeley, Larry worked on the development of the SPAWN and Lost In Space 3D VRML games for Intel/Mediadome/Hollyworlds, and while in Los Angeles he created and sold/licensed to AOL/Asylum internet his 3D website “STARBASE C3” as well as contributing to the design of the Entertainment Asylum’s Sci-Fi, Action, and Comedy Zones. The “STARBASE C3.com” site was the first 3D FLASH/VRML/E-commerce-immersive science fiction site building a community of Sci-Fi fans online via AOL and the web. Larry’s 3D C3 spaceship kits sell actively online to fans and the site continues to grow garnering interest from e-commerce sites, toy manufacturers and broadband service providers. C3 will soon offer direct advertising opportunities and licensing of its content properties to other sites. Larry’s experiences in the new media community led to his founding of the New York VRMLSIG, the nation first virtual reality modeling language non for profit users group as well as the monthly CyberParties co-sponsored with Premiere Graphics and held at the alt.coffee cybercafe in N.Y.C.. He has written on 3d design and technologies for many trade magazines, has frequent speaking roles at industry trade shows, and the documentation of past projects of his has appeared in magazines such as WIRED, NEWMEDIA, Macweek, MSNBC, and multiple books published by the Coriolis group on 3D design and New Media. With the interest in 3D, Gaming, and the creation and marketing of properties and products in this area rising again, Larry has spent the last few years working on the development of 3D tools such as Vizx3D and Flux. He's led the X3D rebirth and founded the SFWEB3D to educate and promote real time 3D projects and technologies to the designer and creative industries. This has led to speaking and hosting of many panels and discussions at the Siggraph, Flashkit, and the Digital Hollywood shows.
During the last few years, Larry has been working with clients
both public and private to deliver the next generation of virtual worlds and web3D game-like
immersive content and entertainment. Public projects have been the online 3D
Snoopy Labyrinth for the Charles M. Schulz Museum, and the VR Galleries for the
Bodega Bay Sky Ranch and such well known artists such as Eric Joyner. With the popularity of Second Life and the new generation of virtual worlds, Cube3 has been working with technology companies like Verizon and Swisscom, and media agencies such as Mediacom and others to create unique VR world expereinces and projects.
As 2007 comes to a close, new projects,products and properties are
being developed to fulfill the promise of large scale 3D real time web
experiences that go way beyond "just games". These new projects have been the
passion and purpose of Cube3 since its inception more than 15 years ago. The original
pioneering days of Cube3 as the lone virtual worlds designer have come to an end and the time and desire to build the 3D
Internet is finally upon us all.
