Jordan Young sharing her thoughts on the Importance of 3D models

We invited CUBE 3 Project Coordinator, Jordan Young, to share her thoughts about the importance of 3D models in the work we do and the ways they can help guide important discussion and critical thinking about the work we do for our clients.

“Sometimes sketching can only take us so far. 3D models can take us much further. A simple sketch model can help us investigate some critical questions: What does this look like in 3 dimensions? What kinds of shadows does this form create? Does it make sense to have an angled wall here? Often these questions can be answered with 3D software, but one could argue that nothing beats holding the physical form in your hand. We can rotate it, point to it, and pass it around while we critique and refine the design together. It’s also a good excuse to take a moment away from a screen – what could be better than crafting a model while basking in the afternoon sunlight that pours in through the large windows of the Lawrence office?”
